What Does the Carnival CHEERS! Package Cost in 2026?
As of 2026, Carnival's CHEERS! beverage package is priced at $69.95 per person, per day when purchased before your cruise. If you wait and buy it onboard, the price jumps to $74.95 per person, per day โ and after the mandatory 20% service charge is added, the all-in onboard cost reaches $83.94 per person, per day.
The pre-cruise price already includes the service charge, making it the smarter buy. Carnival also enforces a hard cut-off: you must purchase before 11:59 PM the night before embarkation. After that, you're paying the higher onboard rate.
| Purchase Timing | Price/Day | 7-Night Total (1 person) |
|---|---|---|
| Pre-cruise (recommended) | $69.95 | $489.65 |
| Onboard (base price) | $74.95 | $524.65 |
| Onboard (with 20% service charge) | $83.94 | $587.58 |

The 15-Drink Daily Limit โ What You Need to Know
Carnival caps CHEERS! at 15 alcoholic drinks per person, per 24-hour period (measured from 6:00 AM to 6:00 AM the following day). Once you hit 15, you cannot purchase any additional alcoholic beverages for the rest of that period โ the package does not roll over.
There's also a 10-minute waiting period between drinks โ Carnival updated this rule in 2024, up from the previous 5-minute gap. This is enforced at the bar. Non-alcoholic beverages are not subject to either limit.
The Break-Even Math: How Many Drinks Do You Need?
At $69.95 per day (pre-cruise price), the math is straightforward. Carnival cocktails typically run $9โ$15 each, beers are $6โ$9, and specialty drinks can reach $18โ$20. Here's how many drinks you need per day to break even:
| Drinks Per Day | Average Drink Price | Verdict |
|---|---|---|
| 5 drinks | $9โ$10 | Break even on cocktails |
| 6 drinks | $9โ$10 | Profitable if you drink steadily |
| 4 drinks | $12โ$15 | Break even on premium cocktails |
| 3 drinks | $20 | Break even on top-shelf drinks |
The consensus from cruisers on Reddit and Cruise Critic is that 5โ6 drinks per day is the break-even point for most people ordering standard cocktails. If you're a light drinker who averages 2โ3 drinks per day, the package almost certainly doesn't pay off. If you're having cocktails at lunch, a few at the pool bar, and drinks at dinner, you'll likely come out ahead.
Who Should Buy the Carnival CHEERS! Package?
โ Buy CHEERS! if you...
- Drink 5+ alcoholic beverages per day
- Drink specialty cocktails ($12โ$15 each)
- Want to avoid watching your tab all cruise
- Drink energy drinks, specialty coffee, or sodas regularly
- Are on a 7+ night cruise (more days = more value)
- Are sailing with a partner who also drinks regularly
โ Skip CHEERS! if you...
- Average fewer than 4 drinks per day
- Mostly drink beer ($6โ$8 each)
- Are on a 3โ4 night cruise (less time to recoup cost)
- Plan to spend most days ashore (package doesn't work on land)
- Are sailing from Texas, Norfolk, or New York (Day 1 alcohol is excluded)
- Have a stateroom partner who doesn't drink (both adults must buy)
The Rule That Catches People Off Guard
The most important restriction that surprises first-time buyers: every adult (21+) assigned to the same stateroom must purchase CHEERS! You cannot buy it for just one person in a cabin. If your partner doesn't drink, you're paying $69.95/day for both of you โ which dramatically changes the math.
For example, if you're a couple and only one of you drinks, you'd need to consume roughly 10โ12 drinks per day to break even on the combined cost of two packages. At that point, the Zero Proof package ($29.99/day) for the non-drinker plus paying individually for your own drinks will almost always be cheaper.
The Alternative: Cheers! Zero Proof Package
For non-drinkers or those who want to cut costs, Carnival offers the Cheers! Zero Proof package at $29.99 per person, per day. It covers all non-alcoholic beverages: sodas, specialty coffees, smoothies, milkshakes, energy drinks, juices, and bottled water.
If you're a soda drinker who goes through 4โ5 Cokes per day plus a couple of specialty coffees, the Zero Proof package pays for itself easily. A single Red Bull on Carnival costs around $5โ$6; two per day plus a few sodas and a specialty coffee already approaches the $29.99 daily rate.
